"Glorious stuff, deeply atmospheric and immaculately sung and played. The current line-up of Pentangle kicks up an absolute storm and Jacqui's voice is gorgeous." Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

An explanation of the album's title by Jacqui: "In 1539, Henry Courteney, Marquis of Exeter, Lord of the Manor of Colyton, one of the noblest kinsman of Henry V111 fell foul of the King by rebuilding his house without permission. He was put to a bloody end. The decapitated Marquis' lands were taken (for a knock down price) by the Crown. Certain well-to-do inhabitants of the town, grouped together and raised 1000 and bargained to have some of the land back, all rents and profits to be put to good use in the parish (sort of charitable works). The King "enfeoffed" them ( I believe it comes from the Norman/Saxon word fiefdom) and also granted them management of fairs, markets and a court of Pie-Powder. So they dealt with all business of the town with the exception of the administration of the law. The studio where we recorded the album, The Presshouse, is on feoffees lands. Martin Barre, who is a guest musician on the album also lives in a house that was once owned by a feoffee".
