Jacqui McShee's Pentangle starts its annual tour on Saturday 1 September at Dunstable Festival. The full list of dates is on Jacqui's gigs page.
Unfortunately, the concert scheduled for 25 September at Circle Arts, Worksop, has been cancelled because the venue has hit a funding crisis.
Although sometimes labelled 'jazz-folk', Pentangles music defies pigeonholing and the band's wide ranging repertoire has wide appeal. The current line-up is Jacqui McShee on vocals, Gerry Conway on drums and percussion, Spencer Cozens on keyboards, Alan Thompson on bass, and Gary Foot on saxophone and flute.
Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music presenter, describes the current line-up's performance as: "Glorious, deeply atmospheric and immaculately sung and played. Pentangle kicks up an absolute storm and Jacqui's voice is gorgeous."
Ahead of the tour, Jacqui is featured in an interview in the Cambridge Evening News: you can read the article here.
This year's Pentangle tour will feature an opening slot by Iconic's up-and-coming solo singer Ella Edmondson, daughter of Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson. You can find out more about this gifted young singer-songwriter and hear Ella's music on her MySpace page.
This has been an eventful year for Pentangle. In February, the original line-up was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony in London. In early summer, Sanctuary Records released a 4-CD box set covering the band's forty-year career: the compilation has sold strongly and raised the band's profile. Later this year, there are plans for Pentangle's current line-up to feature in a new DVD.
