Flooding hit the midlands this week, badly affecting the Severn Valley in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire and the Avon Valley in Warwickshire.
Cropredy was also affected when extremely heavy rainfall on Friday 20 July caused the Cherwell to overtop its banks. Land used for Fairport's Cropredy Convention became flooded but by Sunday evening, the river was back in its banks and most of the surface water had drained from the fields.
There are no plans to cancel Fairport's Cropredy Convention and everyone involved is confident the event will go ahead as planned. "Most of the site, including the Concert Arena, is free of flood water," says festival organiser Gareth Williams. "We have comprehensive contingency plans in place. Some summers have been very wet but we've never had to cancel in over 25 years."
Our local newspaper has been quick off the mark. The Banbury Guardian reported Fairport's news on its website within minutes of Fairport's announcement. Click for the story.
